Legendary former Lazio and AC Milan defender and current Frosinone coach Alessandro Nesta believes that Inter are the strongest team in Serie A heading into next season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Nesta gave the view that the return of Romelu Lukaku makes the Nerazzurri the favourites to win Serie A next season.

Inter have had a busy transfer window, and while they have missed out on a couple major targets in the form of Paulo Dybala and Bremer and still likely have one or two signings on the way, it has been the loan return of Lukaku that has been the most high-profile arrival.

The Belgian did not have the most fruitful season in the Premier League with Chelsea, but given his importance to the Nerazzurri during his two previous seasons at the club, including powering them to the Scudetto in his second, he could well be the player to make the difference.

“For me they’re the team to beat in the league,” Nesta said of Inter. “They brought back Lukaku to solve last season’s biggest problem, the attack, and otherwise things are going well for them.”

“Not to mention, they’ll be very hungry next season after missing out on the Scudetto,” he added.
