Italian journalist Franco Vanni has said that Inter president Steven Zhang will soon have to make a tough decision in regard to the future of the club, according to a report in the Italian media.
Speaking during an interview with Calciomercato, the La Repubblica journalist explained that in just over two years or so, Steven Zhang will be faced with three possible options on how he wants to either progress or step away from the Nerazzurri.
“In the medium term, and we are talking about a year and a half or two years, Zhang will have to choose between selling the club, putting in fresh money, or, a more painful choice for club and fans, selling players and getting by. This is the worst-case scenario.”
He then went on to explain that should the Chinese group choose to sell the club, they will either have to give it to Oaktree Capital Group or to an unknown buyer which would be a long and drawn-out process.
“If he decides to sell, he will have two paths: sell to a third party, which currently has no relationship with Inter, or sell to Oaktree. These are the scenarios.
“The fact that Inter continues to lose money every month and that we are still not close to breaking even means that we cannot continue like this, that something has to happen. Either fresh money, or divestment.”
Inter have already said that they need to end the current transfer window with a profit of €60 million and a wage bill that is reduced by 10-15%. Selling Milan Skriniar could be the way to get the cash.
