Inter’s midfield and attack look to be clicking into place in view of the upcoming season, but the defense and the left wing are areas that will still need work based on what has been seen in preseason so far.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that while there are numerous positive signs overall, the backline and the left flank are outstanding issues.

In midfield, the addition of Kristjan Asllani looks to be potentially key for next season, with the 20-year-old having shone in preseason and showed that he has the qualities necessary to deputize for Marcelo Brozovic as well as a versatility that can fill multiple holes in the centre of the pitch.

Along with the arrival of Hernikh Mkhitaryan on a free transfer, the Nerazzurri’s midfield looks to be well in place, having already been an area of strength last campaign but having lacked real depth.

In attack, despite the fact that Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa have yet to really hit top form, the progress made by first-choice duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez sends a very positive signal for the upcoming campaign.

In defense, on the other hand, there still looks to be a long way to go before the team are back at their best, and they will need to make good use of the next couple of weeks if they are arrive at the beginning of the Serie A season looking strong at the back.

Meanwhile, the situation of Robin Gosens on the left is one further issue to be resolved, with the German undoubtedly having the quality to make the left-sided wingback position his own but with question marks around his fitness.
