This evening’s friendly match against Villarreal will be an important test for Inter’s defense, which has not looked solid in preseason thus far.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who suggest that the defense will be under a microscope when Inter take on the Spanish side as they have failed to record a clean sheet in any of their four previous friendlies.

The beginning of the Serie A season is now just a week away, and the Nerazzurri will want their preparations to be getting close to the final stage so that they can arrive at their season opener against Lecce fully ready to face the challenges to come.

In this respect, there have been mostly encouraging signs in preseason as the team have grown in fitness and chemistry with each passing friendly, but the defense has been the biggest question mark.

Over the last four friendlies against Lugano, Monaco, Lens, and Lyon, the Nerazzurri have had to rely on makeshift defensive units which have not managed to keep clean sheets in any of the four matches.

Now, the first-choice trio of Alessandro Bastoni, Stefan de Vrij, and Milan Skriniar will get their first start together against Villarreal, and the match should give a good indication of how ready they are for the start of the season.
