Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi gave his squad the day off Sunday to rest up following their friendly match against Villarreal on Saturday evening.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the coach gave his players the chance to have some time off following their exertions in a friendly match against Villarreal, with the next week set to be an intense one as they gear up for the start of the Serie A season.

Inter faced Villarreal in a friendly on Saturday evening, losing 4-2 in a performance which showed that there is still much work to be done before they can consider themselves ready for the beginning of the new season.

Inzaghi decided to give the players one day to rest before returning to training ahead of their Serie A opener against Lecce next Saturday.

One positive from the loss to Villarreal was the performance of Robin Gosens who looked sharper than he had previously in preseason over his fifty minutes on the pitch, whilst Marcelo Brozovic’s fitness is being monitored after he missed yesterday’s match through a minor calf problem.
