Legendary former Inter, Roma, and Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano believes that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi showed real attacking ambition with the substitutions that he made in the team’s 2-1 Serie A win over Lecce, and that this paid off.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Cassano gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri coach’s changes to try and push for the win in the team’s Serie A opener last Saturday.

Inter found themselves needing a goal from somewhere during the second half of their clash away to Lecce after the Giallorossi equalized early on in the half, and Inzaghi didn’t wait around to try and have an impact.

The coach introduced the likes of Edin Dzeko, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Joaquin Correa, Alessandro Bastoni, and matchwinner Denzel Dumfries in an effort to shake things up and put his stamp on the game as the home side proved a tough side to score against.

“At a certain point in the second half they played with two defenders and went all-out attack,” Cassano noted, “Inzaghi showed courage, unlike last season when made substitutions like-for-like in different positions.”

“I say good job Simone,” he continued, “I hope this also continues to be the case in the future.”

“The only big problem for Inter is seeing whether Gosens kicks on, now that they’ve lost Perisic,” he noted.

Of Federico Dimarco, Cassano said that “In terms of the buildup phase, I see him as being better in the back three than Bastoni.”

And regarding the possibility of a sale of Milan Skriniar, he said that “I say this as a fan – in the right circumstances, I’d sell him. Better to keep him, of course, but for €60-65 million euros? Who knows…”
