Italian media have argued that the potential €20 million received by Inter for midfielder Cesare Casdaei is not an exaggeration of the 19-year-old’s value considering the dynamics of the transfer market in the Premier League.
This is examined in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that with the hefty €70 million fee that Manchester United are set to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid, Chelsea’s deal to sign Casadei seems more than reasonable.
Inter managed to cash in on a player who had never made an appearance for their senior team by selling Casadei to Chelsea for an initial €15 million plus a possible €5 million in add-ons.
Some eyebrows were raised at the size of the fee, although Casadei has long been a highly-rated young talent who Chelsea clearly felt was worth making a significant investment in.
Meanwhile in the Premier League, the Blues’ rivals Manchester United have agreed a deal worth €70 million with Real to sign Casemiro, and with the Brazilian turning 31 during this season, it should be noted that he is already midway through his prime rather than having his best years ahead of him like Casadei likely does.
It is not just the top clubs like Chelsea and United who are having a summer of spending in England’s top flight, and even teams in the midtable and below have the financial resources and pulling power to bring in high-level players on fees that would be comparatively rare among even the heavy hitters in other leagues like Serie A.
Casadei’s transfer represented an opportunity for Inter to bring in a much-needed cash influx for a player who is all but unproven at the senior level, but in the current market context of the Premier League, it was not a deal that was out of the ordinary.
