Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that it is a positive thing that Milan Skriniar is staying at the club because it’s where he feels happy and committed.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his team’s 3-0 win over Spezia in Serie A earlier this evening, the coach expressed satisfaction that Skriniar is staying, whilst he also was circumspect about the transfer rumours linking Inter to Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi.

Skriniar has been the subject of no shortage of transfer speculation during the summer window, with the 27-year-old having been reported to be a major target of Paris Saint-Germain, with many reports suggesting that a move to the French capital had at one point been very close for him.

However, in the end the Slovakian hasn’t made the move and over the past couple days reports have suggested that the Nerazzurri’s stance is now very firmly against selling him for any offer.

“Milan has been totally professional and working at his best since the end of last season,” Inzaghi said in response to the idea that the defender may be playing with fewer distractions now.

“The way he plays and trains every day has always filled me with confidence,” he added. “He loves Inter and I’m glad he’s staying.”

The coach noted of the Nerazzurri’s third goal against Lecce that “It’s important as a coach to see a goal like our last one, with Dzeko creating it and Correa scoring.”

“That’s the kind of response we want to have from the bench,” he continued. “The five substitutions were important against Lecce and they were important here.”

“I’m happy,” the coach said of his team’s performance, “the team played a serious match. The opposition were in form and they’d won their last match, we did well, in my opinion the possession and non-possession phases were executed well.”

Comparing Lautaro Martinez’s opener this evening against that of Romelu Lukaku against Lecce last weekend, Inzaghi said that “They were both important goals because until the goal tonight, the first 15-20 minutes were tight.”

“The opening goal was important because it broke the deadlock, and then we played very well,” he noted.

Of the team’s usage of long balls to Lukaku, Inzaghi said that “We have more solutions with Romelu in the team. Last year we had the strongest attack in the league, and now we try to exploit running in behind, he and Lautaro did that well this evening.”

“And then Dzeko and Correa did well too,” he added.

“Let’s say that the team did well in terms of movement and controlling space like last season,” he said. “Now we’re just playing our first matches, we had a tough preseason but now we’re starting to find form.”

“We know that every weekend there’s a new opponent, Lecce and Spezia caused us problems,” he added.

And regarding links to Lazio defender Acerbi, the coach said that “You’ll have to ask the directors about that, they’re working on it. We have a position to fill in the defense and we’re trying to find a defender who can help with that.”
