Inter fans made their appreciation for defender Milan Skriniar clear on his return to the San Siro in yesterday’s Serie A home opener against Spezia, with the crowd clearly pleased with the awareness that he’ll be staying this season.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the crowd’s response to Skriniar was one of the big features of the Nerazzurri’s return to play in front of their fans after a couple of months away.

Skriniar has played no shortage of matches in front of the San Siro, but this one came with a different emotion that many others given that the 27-year-old had been linked with a big money move to Paris Saint-Germain for much of the summer transfer window.

The Slovakian is a longtime fan favourite who has been tipped as a future captain, in addition to his obvious quality on the pitch, and few Nerazzurri supporters would have been keen on the idea of losing him regardless of the price.

As such, the news that the team have essentially decided to take Skriniar off the market came at an opportune time, as it gave the Nerazzurri home support the chance to show the 27-year-old all their appreciation secure in the knowledge that he’s not going anywhere.
