Inter have been named as the team likeliest to finish as Champions of Italy based on the statistical model of the CIES Football Observatory.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who note that Serie A is the one top five European league that CIES predicts will have a new champions compared to last season.
There will be no shortage of competition at the top end of the Serie A table this season, with AC Milan having to fend off the likes of Inter, Napoli, Juventus, Atalanta, Lazio, and Roma among others if they are to retain their title.
Based on CIES’s modelling, which relies on data of teams’ attacking and defensive strength, the Nerazzurri are the team best-positioned to come out on top in the scrap for the title this season.
On the other hand, CIES predicts that all of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid will retain their respective titles in their domestic leagues.
In the smaller leagues it is a different story, as CIES predicts that Fenerbahce will unset Trabzonspor as champions of Turkey, Sporting will overtake Porto in the Portuguese top flight, and Midtjylland will finish at the top of the Danish Superliga ahead of defending champions Copenhagen FC.
Meanwhile, CIES predicts that while the order of the two Milan teams will be reversed at the top of the Serie A table, Napoli and Juventus will retain their respective third and fourth places, whilst they also predict that Atalanta will finish in fifth ahead of the likes of Roma and Lazio.
