Inter are still hoping that Borussia Dortmund will give in and allow defender Manuel Akanji to leave on loan before the summer transfer window closes.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri have not given up hope of signing the 27-year-old, and are waiting to see if his club will blink and agree a loan deal rather than let him go into the final year of his deal.
Inter have been trying to convince Dortmund to extend Akanji’s contract, which currently expires at the end of June 2023, by one season and then loan him out for this season.
Given that the Swiss international would otherwise be going into the last year of his contract without agreeing an extension, the Nerazzurri’s hope has been that this situation would give them leverage as the Schwarzgelben wouldn’t want to allow the situation to continue as it is much further.
So far, Dortmund have continued to hold out for a permanent sale with a significant fee, but Inter are still waiting to see if they will blink and sanction a loan deal in order to avoid having Akanji potentially leave for free next summer.
