A certain parallel between wingback Federico Dimarco’s defensive error to allow Lazio’s Felipe Anderson to open the scoring in yesterday’s 3-1 Serie A loss and a similar error against Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic in April has not gone unnoticed.

The 24-year-old was given poor grades for his performance in the player ratings for the match in Italian media, as highlighted by L’Interista, with his defensive lapse to allow the opener late in the first half particularly noted as a black mark against him.

Dimarco had allowed Arnautovic to score an equalizing goal in the infamous loss to Bologna last April which was effectively the goal that denied Inter the title, with the 24-year-old perhaps showing a lack of real defensive instincts to allow the Austrian to power home from a long cross in.

Against Lazio, it was a similar story, as Dimarco did not get his bearings fast enough as Lazio put in a cross deep from their left side, this time a pin-point delivery from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and he lost Anderson who finished well to put the home side ahead.

The former Hellas Verona loanee did show plenty of quality in possession and some dangerous deliveries, perhaps the reason why the Gazzetta dello Sport awarded him a 6/10 score, but his error meant that Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport gave him failing 4.5/10 grades, L’Interista 5/10, and TuttoMercatoWeb just 5.5/10.
