Former Juventus, AC Milan, Cagliari, and Lazio strikere Alessandro Matri believes that there are some early indications that should be very problematic for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, Matri gave his thoughts on some of the Nerazzurri’s early struggles and their 3-1 loss to Lazio in Serie A, identifying some key issues including the lack of form of some of their most important players including Marcelo Brozovic.
Inter struggled to really impose their usual style of football in their 3-1 loss to Lazio on Friday evening, and in truth it was not the first time that this was evident during the start to the campaign as well as preseason.
There is certainly no lack of quality in the Nerazzurri’s squad, but the loss at the Stadio Olimpico was the most pronounced example of the players failing to express themselves at their highest level so far in a season that has been very up and down for the Nerazzurri.
“For Inzaghi the signs haven’t been good,” Matri said. “What worries me especially is that some of their best players like Brozovic have gone missing.”
“The Croat has accustomed us to excellent performances, but he didn’t look very good against Lazio,” he continued.
“And if he doesn’t function then the team doesn’t function,” Matri said of the Croat. “On the goals there are also individual errors – you can’t afford to leave Felipe Anderson unmarked like that after a forty-yard ball in. And you pay for mistakes like that.”
