Inter will not sign Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji before the end of this summer’s transfer window, but are already planning to try to sign him on a free transfer in one year’s time.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri will look to target the 27-year-old next summer when his contract with Dortmund expires, should he still be at the German club at that point.
Inter have been pursuing Akanji throughout the summer transfer window, but it has always looked clear that the only way that they would be able to sign him would be if Dortmund agreed to a loan deal for the Swiss international.
However, the Schwarzgelben have always remained firm in their stance that they would only let the 34-year-old go for a sizable transfer fee.
The Nerazzurri’s interest in Akanji does not end here, however, and they will continue to monitor his situation with the aim of trying to sign him for free during next summer’s transfer window.
