Inter appear to be a better team on both sides of the ball when they can rely on Denzel Dumfries on the right flank, with statistics making a strong case.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that the majority of the goals that the Nerazzurri have scored have come when Dumfries has been on the pitch, whilst he has only been on the pitch for one of the goals conceded.

Inter have scored six goals and conceded four across their first three matches of the Serie A season against Lecce, Spezia, and Lazio, and of these Dumfries has been playing while they scored five and conceded one.

Apart from the fact that the Dutchman had been the Nerazzurri’s impact player by scoring their very late winner against Lecce on the opening day, the sense is that he offers the team balance and dynamism on both sides of the ball as he has been one of the form players early on.

These statistics further reinforce the sense that coach Simone Inzaghi had gotten wrong by removing Dumfries from the pitch as part of a second-half triple substitution with the score 1-1 against Lazio.

Now, between the numbers and the visual evidence of the 26-year-old’s performances when given a chance to prove himself, it will likely become very difficult for Inzaghi to either leave Dumfries out from the starting eleven or remove him from the pitch when the team need a result.
