Inter have been made to regret not signing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao three years ago when sporting director Piero Ausilio had agreed on a deal for him, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media tonight.

As was reported by Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi on Sky Sport Italia after the 3-2 win for the Rossoneri in the Derby della Madonnina, via FCInter1908, the Portuguese forward could be an Inter player right now had the club made a different decision.

The club had agreed on a deal for the player with Lille three years ago and it was current sporting direct Piero Ausilo who had spearheaded the move. All that was missing was a signature to make it official.

Inter decided to instead search for other targets that suited Antonio Conte better as he was the coach at the time. Rafael Leao scored twice against Inter in a 3-2 win at San Siro on Saturday night.
