Inter have looked like they’re going through an identity crisis, and this is not something that has started in Saturday’s Serie A loss to AC Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that the signs have been there since the decisive loss to Bologna in last season’s Serie A title race, and argue that changes are needed to the starting eleven.

Last campaign, Inter grew into the season and looked to have a clearer and clearer idea of how they wanted to play under Simone Inzaghi, obtaining more consistent results with an identifiable style of play as the months wore on.

A wobble in form during the months of February and March raised some doubts about what the team were trying to do, whilst the shock loss to Bologna in April seemed to be the most damaging result yet.

In preseason, the Nerazzurri didn’t look confident in trying to execute the style of play from last season, and it’s been the same during the start to the season proper as the players look caught between trying to resurrect the ideas that worked last season and scrambling to paper over the cracks that have started to appear.

For the Corriere della Sera, it could be time for the team to make a decisive leap from the past, with the newspaper suggesting that fresh faces could be needed in the starting eleven to signal new ideas.
