Legendary Ex-AC Milan Coach Fabio Capello: “If Simone Inzaghi Makes Certain Mistakes It’s Due To Lacking Clear Ideas, Inter Lack Real Leaders”

Legendary former AC Milan, Real Madrid, and England coach Fabio Capello feels that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is finding himself making certain tactical errors due to a lack of clarity to his approach.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Capello gave his analysis of the Nerazzurri coach’s tactical ideas in recent matches and suggested that some of his plans haven’t come off because he has found himself caught in two minds tactically speaking.

There has been some clear continuity between this season’s Inter team and the one from last campaign in terms of the style that they look to be trying to play, with Inzaghi having clearly shaped the squad into his own image.

However, at times the plan has not looked totally well-formulated, and as Capello points out, the roles for the players and the shape of the team on the pitch have not always coalesced into a neat whole.

Speaking about the derby loss to Milan on Saturday, Capello noted that “They started with two second strikers, when I saw that on the team sheet I had some questions.”

“If there are choices that lead to a bad result in two matches in a row, there’s going to be some doubt around the coach’s choices,” he continued. “If you make certain mistakes, it means that you don’t have clear ideas.”

“And the team must have faith in your choices,” he continued, explaining Inzaghi’s position.

“When the moments of difficulty arise, leaders must be found, and I don’t know if there are any at Inter,” Capello added. “I’m talking about leaders who can get their comrades charged up.”
