Inter defender Milan Skriniar feels that it’s still very premature to talk about his future amid his contract situation, as there is still no shortage of time to work things out.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia ahead of tomorrow evening’s Champions League group stage clash away to Viktoria Plzen, the 27-year-old stressed that speculating on his future is hardly necessary at this stage and also gave his thoughts on tomorrow’s match.

Skriniar’s contract situation has become an important topic at Inter given that he remained at the club over the summer and his current deal is set to run out at the end of June 2023 which could allow him to leave on a free transfer.

Reports have suggested that the Nerazzurri are ready to start contract talks and will go some way towards convincing the Slovakian to stay past next summer, but for his part the defender feels that right now the focus should be on the pitch.

“I always try to give my best, and that will always be the case,” he said. “I had an injury, but I’m not looking for excuses. I always give my best and I want to get back to the previous levels, I know how far I have to go.”

He continued that “I don’t want to talk about my future, when there’s news you’ll hear it from me. There’s plenty of time.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash with Viktoria, Skriniar said that “They’re a very physical team, I know all about them because I have some teammates in the national team there,” he explained.

As far as the Czech team’s style, Skriniar said that “They play long balls and have strikers who are great in the air. We have to be careful not to allow counterattacks, and to play our football 0 in the last few games it hasn’t gone very well, we have to pick ourselves up again.”

“Against Torino it’s never easy,” the 27-year-old continued, “they don’t allow you to play well because they mark one-on-one all over the pitch.”

“We’re happy to have won,” Skriniar said of Saturday’s match. “I hope it gives us something more for tomorrow, which is important.”

“This season we have certainly the most difficult group, unlikely last season,” he went on, “we lost the first match, we want to win tomorrow and fight for it against Barcelona.”

“But let’s think about tomorrow,” the defender added, “we absolutely have to win it to be competitive in the group, as we want to be.”
