Inter’s attacking strength has not been at the same level over the first few matches of this season compared to what had been seen in the same timeframe at the start of last campaign.
This is noted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight how attacking statistics illustrate the relative strength of the Nerazzurri’s attacking potency beyond the fact that they have scored fewer goals.
Inter had scored twenty goals after just six matches last season, for 3.3 goals per match, whilst they have managed just twelve in the same period this time around, averaging a respectable but hardly explosive two goals per match.
Moreover, as the Gazzetta notes, the underlying numbers look similar, with the Nerazzurri lagging behind their pace from last season in terms of numbers for chances created, passes into the penalty area, and passes into the final third among other key indicators.
In terms of the Expected Goals statistic, Inter had been at 14.67 xG last season after six matches, whilst this time around they have mustered 11.31.
