Inter and AC Milan are pushing ahead with plans to completely demolish the San Siro in order to make way for the construction of a new stadium in Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri could realistically have construction on the new stadium completed by 2023.

Inter and Milan have been working with the city council of Milan to revise their plans, reducing the impact of their construction plans on the urban area and also including more green space, and over the last few days have received final approval of their revised plans.

The two clubs have reluctantly agreed to reduced volumetric indexes in terms of the amount of concrete to be used for the new project, whilst the cost will remain 1.2 billion.

Now, the public debate around the new stadium project is set to begin later this month, and construction could realistically begin in 2024.

Traffic will have to remain open on the Patroclo Underpass tunnel during the 2026 Olympics, which will be one factor holding up work for a period during the construction, but the work could realistically be completed by 2030.
