Interspac President Carlo Cottarelli feels that the lukewarm reception of Inter President Steven Zhang is a big obstacle to his fan shareholding initiative, but that it cannot be written off entirely.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, Cottarelli commented on the interactions with Zhang and the prospects of the Interspac project.

Cottarelli and his associates worked to gain support for the project of transitioning the Nerazzurri to a business model which included more shares being held by fans rather than a single owner, a model which would be similar to clubs in the Bundesliga, over last summer and fall.

After gaining signatures on a petition and drawing up a proposal, Cottarelli spoke with Zhang, although he admits that the meeting did not go overly positively, as the Nerazzurri President was not receptive to the idea, which makes things difficult for Interspac to get off the ground at the moment.

“I was there to talk about Interspac, and it is clear that Zhang doesn’t like the idea of the project,” he said, “though I don’t think this means we should say that it will never happen.”
