There is still significant opposition within the city of Milan to Inter and AC Milan’s plans to demolish the San Siro in order to make way for the construction of a new stadium.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who report that even though the clubs should soon get full ratification of their plans from the city council, there are still many obstacles in terms of public opposition, including within government.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri can move ahead with the public debate once the city council formally ratifies their updated plans for the new stadium, which includes tearing down the existing San Siro in order to make space in which to build.
The ratification should come from the city council soon, with a majority of representatives having already approved of it, although there have been some notable dissenters in this respect.
Moreover, there has been public protest and a strong sentiment among some prominent citizens that the existing San Siro cannot be torn down, and this could still slow down if not outright halt the new stadium plans.
