Inter are continuing to rely on the goals of Lautaro Martinez whilst Romelu Lukaku is out recovering from his thigh injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi needs the Argentine to be at his best in front of goal specifically to make up for the absence of Lukaku.

Inzaghi’s ultimate hope is to have both Martinez and Lukaku fit and firing as an attacking duo.

When both strikers are available, then the coach does not need to be too reliant on one or the other for goals, as they can operate as a tandem to find the back of the net regularly.

With Lukaku out, however, there is greater emphasis on Martinez in particular to be the focal point and the team’s main source of goals.

Once the Belgian finally makes his return from injury after more than a month out, the pressure on Martinez to score won’t be quite as great, and the 25-year-old can focus just as much on helping out his strike partner and the team in other ways.

However, as long as Lukaku’s goals are missing, Martinez must take up the mantle of the Nerazzurri’s primary goalscorer.
