Former Inter coach and former Nerazzurri and Juventus midfielder Marco Tardelli feels that Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku would not make an effective pairing in attack.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, Tardelli gave the view that the two Nerazzurri strikers have playing styles that are too similar to effectively dovetail as a partnership.

Lukaku is almost back to fitness, and this will mean that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has the option of pairing him with any of Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez, or Joaquin Correa in attack.

Dzeko and Lukaku have been on the pitch at the same time already this season, but not as part of a pairing in attack.

There is a reasonable possible that the two strikers will be tested out as a duo leading the line at some point over the next few matches.

However, for his part Tardelli is skeptical that they’d be able to form an effective and complete partnership due to their similarities as out-and-out strikers.

“It will be a good problem for the coach to have,” he said of Inzaghi having to choose between all of his striker fit and available.

“I believe that Dzeko and Lukaku will hardly be able to play together given their similar characteristics,” he continued.

Tardelli stated that “Inzaghi will have to decide based on the different moments and what he sees in training, but they’re too similar players who can’t play together.”
