Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that Edin Dzeko is proving himself to be a solid backup option in attack and can also give coach Simone Inzaghi a real decision to make going forward.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, Adani praised the Bosnian for his performances so far this season.

Dzeko stayed at Inter during the summer despite the return of Romelu Lukaku, which many expected to significantly reduce his playing time.

However, the 36-year-old has featured regularly this season, particularly given the fact that Lukaku has been out injured for much of the start of the campaign.

The former Roma and Manchester City has not only played regularly, but also proved himself to be a fairly reliable performer and goal scorer as he did last season, in both the league and the Champions League.

Adani was very positive about Dzeko, stating that “He was meant to be the deputy to Romelu Lukaku, but with the Belgian struggling with injury he’s proven to be solid and reliable.”

“Beyond the 101 goals he’s scored, his professionalism and credibility stand out.”

“When Lukaku returns, Simone Inzaghi will have a lot to think about.” Adani suggested, “and then let’s not forget that Lautaro Martinez is also there.”

“Considering that the World Cup is happening, Dzeko shouldn’t just be considered a backup,” the former defender argued.
