Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is thinking about using Henrikh Mkhitaryan as an attacking midfielder against Barcelona on Wednesday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach is considering playing the 33-year-old behind Lautaro Martinez as an alternative to starting Edin Dzeko in the Champions League clash.

Martinez and Dzeko are the only two senior forwards who will be fit for Inter in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage clash, with Romelu Lukaku and Joaquin Correa still injured.

However, the coach could opt to change up the formation a bit rather than going with the pair who started against Sassuolo.

A switch to a 3-5-1-1 shape would allow Inzaghi to get another midfielder on the pitch playing in the hole behind Martinez.

Mkhitaryan is a versatile midfielder who would be well suited to playing in this role and getting into the final third regularly, linking up with the striker in attack.

Meanwhile, on the right flank Denzel Dumfries is the favourite to start, whilst Inzaghi is between Federico Dimarco or Matteo Darmian to start on the left.
