Kristjan Asllani or Roberto Gagliardini could start for Inter in midfield in their Champions League clash with Barcelona on Wednesday.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that one of the pair would be likely to feature in the midfield trio in the event that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is used in a role higher up the pitch.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is seriously considering dropping Edin Dzeko to the bench for tomorrow’s match and switching from a 3-5-2 to a 3-5-1-1 system.
The trequartista role would likely be filled by Mkhitaryan in this system, as the 33-year-old is versatile and has proved adept in attacking roles in the past.
However, this would mean that there would be a slot left to fill in the midfield trio given that Mkhitaryan started the reverse fixture in midfield.
One of Asllani or Gagliardini would therefore come into midfield alongside Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella.
