Nerves and psychological struggles look to be playing a significant role in Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s present struggles in front of goal.

This is the view of today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that this is hardly the first time that the Argentine has gone through a long goal drought for his club.

When he is fully firing, few can doubt Martinez’s goalscoring abilities, but the real issues have come when he is not.

Martinez suffered a notable goal drought last season that coincided with the Nerazzurri’s worst run of form as a team, and had also had a long spell without a goal in the season prior.

This campaign, despite getting off to a fast start, it has now been eight matches in all competitions in which the 25-year-old has failed to find the back of the net.

The feeling is that the knowledge of this goal drought is weighing on Martinez when he plays.

It has always seemed to be the case that, once Martinez finally finds his goal, he is freer in how he plays in front of goal and more soon follow.

However, for now at least, the Argentine seems to be playing with the hindrance of some serious nervousness when he gets opportunities to score.
