Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi looks to have significantly refashioned Inter over the past few matches after signs that things weren’t working early on in the season.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who highlight the starting roles for Federico Dimarco and Andre Onana as well as more counterattacking tactics as facets of the coach’s “new Inter.”
Inter’s poor start to the campaign, with as many losses as they had wins over the first ten matches, virtually demanded the coach intervene and change things up.
Inzaghi has responded by lowering the defensive line a few yards, allowing the players a more naturally compact shape in front of goal, as well as an attacking strategy more focused on baiting opponents into leaving space and then attacking it.
This approach could certainly be partly designed to get the best out of Romelu Lukaku’s characteristics once the Belgian returns from injury.
Moreover, the coach has made a couple of bold and decisive choices regarding the starting eleven which have paid off.
Against both Barcelona and Sassuolo in two recent wins, Inzaghi has decided to go with Andre Onana in goal over Samir Handanovic, and the Cameroonian has repaid the coach’s faith with good displays.
Meanwhile, the in-form Federico Dimarco has been given the nod on the left flank where he has done well holding down a starting role.
