Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to switch the a 3-5-1-1 shape to face Barcelona in the Champions League tomorrow.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach will use Henrikh Mkhitaryan in an attacking midfield role, and Roberto Gagliardini in midfield.
Inzaghi’s customary shape since taking charge of Inter last summer has been a 3-5-2 with two fairly conventional forwards.
However, the coach only has Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko to him available to him among senior strikers at the moment, due to injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Joaquin Correa.
Rather than starting Martinez and Dzeko against the Blaugranas, Inzaghi is ready to have Martinez lead the line, with Mkhitaryan playing behind the Argentine.
Given that Mkhitaryan had started in a midfield trio in the reverse fixture, his switch in position will leave a vacancy in the centre, which is likely to be filled by Gagliardini.
Meanwhile, Andre Onana is also set to start his third consecutive match in goal.
The Gazzetta’s complete predicted eleven for the match is as follows:
Inter (3-5-1-1): Onana; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Gagliardini, Dimarco; Mkhitaryan; Lautaro.
