Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has said that he would have liked to be through to the next round in the Champions League with two games to spare, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with Inter TV after the match on Wednesday night, via FCInternews, the Nerazzurri coach lamented the fact that the 3-3 draw against Barcelona was not enough to secure safe passage to the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

It is nonetheless a positive result as it means that Inter just need to beat Czech side Viktoria Plzen at home in the next match. They have lost all of their games so far and have no hopes of progression.

“It’s normal that there is great satisfaction because being able to put in two performances like that against Barcelona gives you great satisfaction.

“There is a bit of regret because with what we created we would have liked to get to the round of 16 with two matches to spare.”

Simone Inzaghi stressed that the Viktoria Plzen match is the final missing piece in Inter’s quest for a second consecutive appearance in the latter stages of the Champions League.

“I am very satisfied. I congratulated the boys because we played a great match against a very strong opponent, now we are missing the last step against Viktoria in front of our fans in our stadium.”

On the overall performance: “Absolutely, we knew what kind of game we had to play.

“We were aggressive, determined and brave because we had to come here with great courage and we succeeded.”
