Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has said that Inter play an Italian style of football in the Champions League this season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arrigo Sacchi talked about how Inter now only need to beat Viktoria Plzen in their Champions League game in order to get to the Round of 16.

He suggested that he does not have 100% confidence in the Nerazzurri to do that but then talked about the style that they seem to be playing in this season.

“Not an impossible task. Inter is a team that plays Italian football: solid defence, counterattacks and great reliance on individuals.

“The players have remarkable technical qualities and a lot of experience.

“The game is not always at European level, that is, modern, but with Barça at Camp Nou they put in an excellent performance.

“Inter can also go forward and perhaps exploit the great talents of the many champions they have in their team.”

He then appeared to raise the levels of optimism when asked if the semi-finals is a realistic target for Inter in this season’s Champions League.

He suggested that nothing is impossible in football and they will have built their belief with the win and draw against Barcelona.

“Nothing is impossible, I believe that the two games with Barcelona, after a difficult period, can help to regain self-esteem. And then, when there is self-esteem, you can think about running towards glory.”
