Former Inter owner Massimo Moratti has said that Jose Mourinho would have had a successful third season if he had stayed on as Inter coach, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking at the presentation of Ivan Zazzaroni’s new book about Jose Mourinho, via FCInternews, Massimo Moratti showed how much praise he has for the Portuguese coach.

Jose Mourinho will always be seen as a legend at Inter because he was the coach when they won the Triplete, something never achieved before or since by an Italian side.

The Nerazzurri won the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League. Those trophies were achieved in 2010 but he then accepted an offer to go to Real Madrid.

Massimo Moratti explained that he is sure more trophies would have been won in his third year at the club had he stayed for it.

“I’m sure that if he had stayed he would have done well in his third year.

“After him I took Benitez and I was surprised myself because he was a coach with whom Mourinho didn’t have great relations.

“I met Benitez, and as Mou said, he spoke not well of him. We both started off a bit left-footed. Then I took Leonardo, he was great at recreating the perfect atmosphere.

“We came within a hair’s breadth of winning the championship. He was very good at adapting to society after all that had happened. Of course, Mourinho leaves a void the moment he leaves.”

Massimo Moratti also waxed lyrical about how Jose Mourinho offers support to his players whilst coaching.

“Mourinho made everything easy, but winning is never easy.

“His sense of responsibility and support for the players made the difference.

“He is a person who knows everything, not just football.

“An intelligent, pragmatic person. Mourinho never gets complacent, he always instils that idea. His Roma is a good team.”
