Italian doctor Cristiano Fusi has provided an update on the fitness and recovery timeline of Inter striker Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the athletic rehabilitation specialist who’s been working with Lukaku explained that what needs to be waited for now is for the Belgian to be fit enough to avoid risking reinjury.

Lukaku has taken somewhat longer than had been expected to get back to the pitch following a thigh strain that he suffered at the end of August.

The 29-year-old has been reported on a few occasions to be very close to being ready.

However, while it has been true that the striker has been close to fully recovered, he has not been cleared to return.

As Fusi explains, this is not because Lukaku has still been injured necessarily, but rather because great caution is being exercised with his fitness so that he does not cause further problems.

“We shouldn’t be worried, we can reassure the fans,” he said.

“With a player like him who has a very large physique, it’s important to take precautions to avoid reinjury.”

“It takes some time to get him back on the pitch in the right condition,” he explained.
