Italian journalist Matteo Marani has said that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has come in for a lot of criticism in recent weeks so now it is right to praise him, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport Italia, via FCInternews, Matteo Marani tried to take a balanced approach to how Simone Inzaghi is doing with Inter this season.

Inter were in a very poor run of form leading into the two matches against Barcelona in the Champions League and there were murmurs about Simone Inzaghi’s job safety.

They then beat Barcelona 1-0, beat Sassuolo 2-1 in Serie A, and then got a 3-3 draw at Camp Nou which almost assures them a place in the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

As Matteo Marani points out, now is the time to praise the Inter coach for turning the form around.

“There is an important step that has to be acknowledged to Inzaghi: he has suffered a lot of criticism, but in this case he deserves praise because he has made good choices.”

He then explained that the way he has handled Stefan de Vrij is an example of good work: “Even that of De Vrij is a choice, first he was covering himself by betting on Acerbi.

“Then he understood that the Dutchman was also needed. He has restored compactness, he has put Inter closer to what we have seen in the past.

“The physical condition is also improving: Inter are now better. It could also be that there was an internal discussion, we’re not in the locker room, but the important thing is that we’ve moved on.”
