Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that the Nerazzurri have managed to get back their identity after a rocky start to the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 23-year-old spoke about the phase of introspection that the team went through to get out of their early season slump in form.

A win and a draw against Barcelona in the Champions League on either side of a league victory over Sassuolo looks to have gone some way towards righting the ship for Inter.

There was no denying that the team’s form at the start of the season was poor.

However, the spirit shown since the return from the international break has demonstrated that the team have what it takes to get themselves back on track.

The work is anything but done and the team must show continuity from their last few weeks, starting with Salernitana this evening.

As Bastoni explained, however, the foundations are strong and the team know what they have to do.

“We’re trying to find our identity after a complicated start to the season,” the defender said.

“We’re coming off the back of three matches in which we got back our awareness of who we are, we want to keep going like that.”

Asked if he thinks that there’s a danger of underestimating this evening’s opponents Salernitana, Bastoni stated that “Going from the Camp Nou to today isn’t easy, but we’ve been working on our mentality in recent days.”

“We had a meeting amongst ourselves in the locker room where we realized that we’d been complaining too much to each other, and came to the conclusion that we all have to help ourselves if we’re to reach our biggest goals.”
