Inter defender Francesco Acerbi feels that things are improving in the team compared to when he arrived at the start of last month.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 34-year-old gave the view that the team’s 2-0 Serie A win over Salernitana was further evidence of their continued improvements.

Inter hardly got their season off to the best start, with four wins and four losses in Serie A.

Even in the matches that the Nerazzurri won, there was not a sense of total confidence and composure, and the team struggled to remain compact on the pitch.

However, four massive points against Barcelona in the Champions League have been coupled with two consecutive wins in the league over the past couple weeks.

Acerbi has been impressed by how the team has developed and grown even in such a short span of time.

“The match was difficult, especially after coming from Barcelona and also the match against Sassuolo, and we really need consistency because we’re behind in the table.”

“We approached it well,” he argued, “finding the goal quickly enough.”

“But we could have killed it off earlier, and if we’re unable to do so then we always risk taking away an undeserved draw.”

“This is a moment in which we’re improving in terms of intensity, ruthlessness, and also humility, which we were missing a bit, though through no fault of the guys.”

“Maybe it was an unconscious thing, the guys have always given everything, I know them.”

“When I arrived there was a bit of a different air, I don’t mean that the team were relaxed, but it just wasn’t the same as this,” he suggested.

Of the Nerazzurri’s next couple matches, Acerbi noted that “Against Viktoria we’re playing for progression to the Champions League knockouts, it’s vital because we’re in a group with Bayern and Barcelona and it’s an important objective for us.”

“In the league we have to win because we’re a ways behind and the teams at the top are in good form, and we know full well the importance of the title race.”
