Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that he got a special experience to be able to score at the Camp Nou against Barcelona.

Speaking in the matchday program for this evening’s Serie A clash with Salernitana, the German thanked everyone who’s helped him to get where he is, and explained that he feels fortunate to have experienced scoring such an important goal.

Gosens made his mark in a Nerazzurri shirt in perhaps the biggest way since joining the club by scoring in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw with the Blaugranas.

The 28-year-old has yet to really cement his place in the team, but he showed exactly what he can do to help his team secure a point and put one foot in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

“I’m fortunate, coming on at the Camp Nou and scoring an important goal for my team is a unique feeling,” the German said.

He compared it to to scoring a goal and bagging two assists for Germany against Portugal at the Euros, stating that “Playing for the national team is incredible, and having played in such an important match was brilliant.”

Of the people who have helped him to get where he is, Gosens said that “Many people have played an important role in my career, from the Sporting Director back at Dordrecht who always believed in me, to Gasperini who helped me grow a lot.”

Asked if there’s a former Inter played he’d have liked to have as a roommate, Gosens named “Jurgen Klinsmann, partly because when he played at Inter he was an icon in Germany, and so sharing a room with him would have been very interesting.”

As for a former Nerazzurri player he’d like to have as a teammate, the German named “Eto’o or Milito, two very impressive players.”

As for a former Inter player he’d like to come up against, Gosens named “Brehme, he was one of the top players in his position, I would have liked to come up against him, partly to learn from his style of play.”

Gosens spoke about the importance of “Mentality and discipline, two essential characteristics for me, I would not have made it here without them.”

“Having fun on the football pitch is also fundamental,” he argued, “that’s something that has made a difference for me.”

“I’ve always enjoyed myself and this has remained the case.”

Gosens noted that “Even though there is pressure now, I’ve always held on to my love for football.”

Of his direct role model, Gosens said that “Since I started playing football, David Alaba has always been my idol, I watched him when he was at Bayern and his style of playing different roles on the pitch has always impressed me.”

Looking back, the German said that “I made my professional debut in Dordrecht, a small city in the Netherlands but very important to me.”

“In Bergamo I matured as a person and as a footballer, it was an intense experience.”

Now that he’s at Inter, Gosens said that “Milan is a unique city, when I was in Bergamo I often came to visit here, it’s beautiful and modern, and now I’m happy to be here.”
