Romelu Lukaku will only return to the pitch from his thigh injury if medical tests show that he will not be at risk of reinjuring himself.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, who report that the 29-year-old will not play if there is any chance that he might not be ready to play without causing further problems.

Lukaku is very close to being able to return to the pitch, as he is all but recovered from the thigh injury that has caused him to miss the past month and a half.

The issue is that if the Belgian is to come back too soon he could cause more damage to the muscles, however.

As such, Lukaku remains on the sideline where he is resting and strengthening the affected muscles.

As soon as the Belgian is given clearance from medical tests he will make his return to the pitch, but not before then.
