Salernitana head coach Davide Nicola feels that his team put in a decent performance and could even have nicked a result against Inter before the Nerazzurri found a second goal.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, Nicola noted that the Granata even had chances for an equalizer, although in the end the quality of the Nerazzurri told for the final result.
Inter controlled the majority of possession and had the balance of chances against Salernitana.
However, the Granata showed no lack of threat on the counterattack and when they could put together a sustained spell of possession.
Nerazzurri goalkeeper Andre Onana had some saves to make, and there were some nerves in the team and through the San Siro when the scoreline was still only 1-0.
Eventually Inter found their second goal to put the game to bed, but Nicola feels that before then his team were in it.
“I’d have to highlight the second goal,” he said, “we were late to react to Barella’s run in behind and got punished for it.”
“After that it became difficult to come back,” the coach continued, “we created the kinds of situations to hurt Inter, we could have equalized in the first half through Kastanos, we had some good counterattacks but couldn’t finish them off.”
