Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano has been very impressed by what he’s seen from Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu lately.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Cassano also gave his thoughts on the positive effect Andre Onana has had in goal, and argued that the team turned a corner by facing Barcelona.

Dimarco has emerged as a fixture in this current Inter lineup on the left flank.

The 24-year-old’s passing and deliveries into the box have given the team a different dimension, whilst his energy and defensive effort look to have improved.

Meanwhile, over the past few matches Hakan Calhanoglu has moved into a deeper midfield role to fill in for Marcelo Brozovic.

Cassano weighed in, stating that “Dimarco’s been exceptional, he’s impressing me, he’s hardly missed a minute this season.”

“I’d also have to mention Calhanoglu,” he continued, “Brozovic is still the standard, but the Turk has shown that there is very little he can’t do playing in front of the defense.”

“And then there’s also the matter of the goalkeeper,” the former forward noted, “it was important to make a decision, and at the moment Onana gives the team more calmness than Handanovic.”

“He’s reactive, he’s a player who’s hungry,” he said of the Cameroonian.

“Samir is acting like a professional, but Onana has given a positive effect to the entire defense.”

Cassano gave the view that “Against Barcelona at San Siro something took place, the turning point has come, I see more confidence in many players.”

“This is what Inter has to be,” he continued, “I was wrong in saying that Inzaghi had to be sacked.”

“Still, this is clearly not enough, they’re still eight places off of top spot,” Cassano added.

“If they finish fourth, the bare minimum will have been achieved because this team has to play for the top spots,” he argued.

“It’s one thing to lose out on the title like last season, but you have to fight for it all the way and not be out of the race in March,” he said.
