Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone could depart from the Spanish giants at the end of the current season, with Inter one of the possible destinations for him.

This according to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, who report that the Nerazzurri would be one of the main names where the Argentine coach could go if he were to leave the Colchoneros.

Simeone has been in charge of Atletico Madrid for more than a decade, having joined the club as head coach in 2011.

However, the 52-year-old’s reign as one of the longest-serving managers in a top five European league could finally come to an end at the end of the current season.

Simone is currently under contract with Atletico until the end of June 2023, but could depart this summer one year before the end of his deal.

It has been a difficult season for the Colchoneros, and Simeone could be inching closer to leaving.

Should Simeone leave Atletico, his next move would not be immediately clear, and the Argentine could decide to take a sabbatical from football.

On the other hand, Simeone had persistently been linked with Inter in the past, having played for the Nerazzurri as well as Lazio.

In the past, the wages that the 52-year-old earns at Atletico have always made a move for him improbable.

These links could re-emerge should the Argentine leave Atletico this summer.

There is no sign that Inter are unhappy with current head coach Simone Inzaghi, but the situation could change if Simeone becomes available, particularly if Inter are purchased by new owners.

Simeone has had coaching experience in Italy, having briefly been in charge of Catania.
