Tomorrow evening’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina will pose a real test for Inter’s rotating cast of defenders, with the Nerazzurri in search of their first clean sheet away in Serie A since April.
This is noted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who suggest that this will be the match for the Nerazzurri to prove that they have really regained defensive solidity.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has been chopping and changing the back three a fair bit in recent matches.
Francesco Acerbi has become a regular fixture, whilst all of last season’s first-choice trio of Alessandro Bastoni, Stefan de Vrij, and Milan Skriniar have played a fair bit.
Meanwhile, Federico Dimarco and Danilo D’Ambrosio have occasionally been used.
There have been signs that the team are finding their groove defensively, with clean sheets at the San Siro against Barcelona and Salernitana showing real solidity.
However, it is noted that the Nerazzurri have not kept the opposition from scoring in any of their Serie A away fixtures since a 1-0 win against Juventus in Turin at the beginning of April.
Therefore, Inzaghi will be looking for a clear signal that the team are capable of holding firm for ninety minutes away to a Serie A rival in tomorrow’s match, whichever defensive personnel he decides to choose.
