After netting the winner at the death, Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan was adamant that his side deserved their 4-3 win over Fiorentina in Serie A yesterday.

The former Armenia international settled a thrilling encounter deep into stoppage time to snatch victory for the Nerazzurri, after they had early squandered 2-0 and 3-2 leads.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the final whistle at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, as reported by FCInterNews.it, Mkhitaryan insisted that his goal was no less than Inter deserved from the game, and that the three points were more important than his strike.

“Today the most important thing was the victory, it doesn’t matter that I scored,” the summer arrival from Roma claimed.

“These are three very important points, but let’s move on.

“It was a deserved victory, we started very strong, then a bit of tiredness crept in but we won in the end with character.”

The win was Inter’s third consecutive victory in Serie A and the Nerazzurri have the opportunity to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday.

Mkhitaryan insisted that the European game was not on the players’ minds though, and they were focused on securing the victory over the Viola first before moving onto the next match.

“We knew it would not be easy, they are very strong, they play well and create problems for everyone, but we never gave up,” he continued.

“We weren’t conserving energy for the Champions League, I had no strength left at the end, but I wanted to show that we can fight until the end.

“We take it game by game, then see where we end up,” Mkhitaryan concluded.
