Italian media report that referee Paolo Valeri risks being suspended for one round following his error in not sending not Inter’s Italian international Federico Dimarco.

Referee Paolo Valeri probably will be suspended for one round after he failed to send off Inter defender Federico Dimarco after a dangerous challenge on  Viola midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura in the penalty area in the 30th minute of Fiorentina-Inter.

“It is probable that referee Paolo Valeri is guilty of not giving an evident red card to Dimarco after his foul on Bonaventura in Fiorentina-Inter, even after he saw the replay at the VAR monitor,” writes the online edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews.

“Referee Designation [Rocchi] has respect for Valeri and he wants to use him in the period of games leading up to the international break, but Saturday night at the Franchi may force [Rocchi] to give the referee a week off to reflect on his error,” concludes the Milan-based newspaper.

Paolo Valeri has arbitrated 4 games in Serie A and issued 21 yellow card so far this season.

The Roman-born referee had a complicated Fiorentina-Inter, where he also had to contend with a VAR review on Lautaro Martinez’s penalty kick goal.

It was believed that the Inter striker was offside before being overturned by the VAR review.

Fiorentina-Inter ended with 7 goals scored, multiple VAR reviews, 7 yellow cards given and 2 penalty kicks given.
