There were chaotic scenes at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the aftermath of Inter’s dramatic 4-3 Serie A victory over Fiorentina on Saturday evening.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that a Nerazzurri fan was attacked, whilst significant abuse was hurled at the club’s President and directors.
Tensions had broadly boiled over in the stands as the Fiorentina fans made no effort to hide their frustrations at the manner of their team’s late loss to Inter.
Seven goals and multiple controversial refereeing decisions had seen the Nerazzurri emerge with three points when the dust settled.
In the stands, the Viola fans reacted, with an Inter fan being physically assaulted in the Fiorentina end in the reaction to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s late winner.
Moreover, the directors and President Steven Zhang all had insults hurled at them.
In this respect, the scenes echoed the treatment that the likes of Adriano Galliani, Andrea Agnelli, Pavel Nedved, Gian Piero Gasperini, Carlo Ancelotti, and Luciano Spalletti have all received at the stadium.
For Zhang’s part, the level of vitriol from the home supporters came as a real shock, attending his first away Inter match in five months.
From the Fiorentina directors as well, there was little effort to hide their anger in response to the result.
Rocco Commisso and Joe Barrone also vented their frustrations at their Nerazzurri counterparts on a night when tensions boiled over.
