Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi expects that Marcelo Brozovic should follow Romelu Lukaku in returning to the team from injury soon.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, the coach updated on the Croat’s recovery timeline, and also hailed the team for doing something special by qualifying for the Champions League knockout rounds against Viktoria Plzen.

Lukaku got back on the pitch for the first time in two months in the closing stages of the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 win over Plzen this evening.

The Belgian had a fairytale return, scoring an excellent goal to round off the emphatic 4-0 win.

It was a perfect way for the Nerazzurri to end a night that saw them secure their place in the Champions League knockouts for the second season in a row.

Things may get even better for Inzaghi and his team, if Brozovic is to also return from injury over the next couple of matches.

Asked about the condition of the 29-year-old, Inzaghi replied that “He’s doing very well.”

“Today Lukaku returned, Gagliardini returned, in a few days we hope to bring back Brozovic,” he continued.

“With the team constantly playing, I have to have the opportunity to constantly rotate the squad.”

Of qualification for the round of sixteen, Inzaghi said that “We knew that we were in a very tough group, we went beyond expectations.”

“Massive applause to the players,” the coach continued of the achievement made official in this evening’s victory.

“To reach our first objective for the season, we had to do something really special,” he said.

“We’ve grown match upon match, and we got a lot of self-belief from the two matches against Barcelona.”

“We’re happy for everyone who supports Inter,” the coach added.

Asked about midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu’s performance as a regista, Inzaghi said that “He’s a player who combines quality and quantity.”

“Last season I played him there a few times, even when he plays higher up he often wants the ball to his feet.”

“And I wouldn’t want to forget about Asllani, who has also done well,” he continued.

“Hakan has improved game by game,” Inzaghi said, “and he’s always given me everything.”
