Inter held initial contract talks with the representatives of defender Milan Skriniar today.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Nerazzurri held the first meeting to get the lay of the land in contract negotiations, and that the decisive talks could take place next week.

Inter have been holding off talks regarding a possible contract extension for Skriniar until after qualification for the Champions League knockout stage was secured.

The Nerazzurri earned their spot in the knockouts of Europe’s top competition with their win over Viktoria Plzen yesterday evening and so the first round of talks took place today.

No agreement was reached with Skriniar and his representatives, as the purpose of the talks was more to begin the negotiations.

However, according to the Gazzetta, the decisive meeting could already come in around one week.

The Nerazzurri are aiming to get Skriniar’s situation sorted out before the January transfer window so as to avoid losing the 27-year-old on a free transfer, or at least to have clarity on his situation.
