Inter’s task now will be to carry over the momentum they’ve gathered in Europe into the league so that they can re-enter the title race.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the Nerazzurri must keep the standard of performance that they showed to eliminate Barcelona from Europe’s competition going in Serie A.

Inter have achieved something special in the context of their season by reaching the Champions League knockouts from the “group of death.”

The players have proved that they are up to the biggest European challenges, something which looked a mile away based on their poor early season form.

Now, the Nerazzurri’s focus shifts back to the league, where they still have a lot of damage to undo from that bad start.

Given that Inter have reached the knockouts of the Champions League ahead of one of Europe’s heavy hitters in Barcelona, they will not lack confidence going into the league.

However, it will be imperative for them to keep proving themselves in every match if they can overhaul the deficit in the league table.
